Pearl of Great Price

The Pearl of Great Price is quite unique in its character. It is an assortment of documents of varied origins which have all come to us through Joseph Smith, the prophet. It spans more time than any of the other books of the LDS Canon, yet it is the shortest of all the books of the Canon. Its origins include Joseph Smith's restoration of passages lost from the Old Testament (Moses), a prophetic translation of an ancient papyrus (Abraham), a reorganization of Christ's prophesies regarding His return, restoring it to its original form (Joseph Smith- Matthew), Joseph Smith's own autobiographical account of the First Vision, the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, and the restoration of the Priesthood (Joseph Smith- History), and an inspired excerpt from a letter written by Joseph Smith to a Chicago journalist (The Articles of Faith). As such we have included these individual books in our chronological lists of the other books of the Canon. As with all our Scripture Research Tools, we have tried to keep our lists simple to encourage Chapter Reading.
